Dr Ioannis Anastasiou

Dr. Anastasiou has trained in Advanced Endoscopy at Harvard Medical School and has worked at some of the most prestigious Universities and medical centers in the United States.


He graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens where he also completed his PhD. He worked as a Clinical Research Fellow in Hepatology at the London Clinic and as a Research Associate at University College,(UCL), London. He did his training in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at Evangelismos Hospital in Athens. He underwent further training in Advanced Interventional Endoscopy at Harvard University's hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He served for three years as an Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology/Advanced Endoscopy at the University of Dammam in Saudi Arabia.


Subsequently, he joined the Department of Gastroenterology at the University of Arkansas in the United States, as Director of the Department of Interventional Endoscopy at the John McClellan Memorial Veterans Center Hospital and as Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology/Interventional Endoscopy. He was an integral member of the Department of Gastroenterology, providing specialized endoscopic procedures and participating in the training of fellows in gastroenterology and interventional endoscopy. Dr. Anastasiou helped introduce several new endoscopic techniques and was also responsible for the significant expansion of endoscopic procedures over a four-year period.


Areas of clinical focus include early diagnosis and treatment of premalignant conditions and cancers of the pancreas, esophagus, stomach, and colon and applications of artificial intelligence in gastroenterology. Expert in interventional endoscopy including endoscopic ultrasound, ERCP, endoluminal stenting, endomucosal resection, and endoscopic ablative therapies.
